Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett together for the last time. It will happen on August 3, the day of Bennett’s 95th birthday, and on the 5th on the stage of Radio City Music Hall in New York, in what was heralded as their last performance together. One Last Time: An Evening with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga it will therefore be a real event that will seal the collaboration of two artists who started working together in 2011 and will conclude their experience this year, with the release of a new album in autumn.
In February, the family announced that Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016: the Grammy winner, however, continued to sing and play despite the diagnosis, encouraged by the doctors. The two Radio City concerts will be, as a statement specified, Bennett’s last New York City performances of his career. To share the enthusiasm, and even a bit of emotion, for this reunion was also Gaga, who wrote on Instagram: “I am honored and excited to celebrate Tony’s 95th birthday with him in these special shows”.
The concerts will be enriched by interpretations of pieces from the Great American Songbook of Standards, accompanied by the Tony Bennett Quartet, the Brian Newman Quintet and an orchestra conducted by Michael Bearden. All spectators over the age of 16 will need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to be able to sit in the audience. No cell phones, cameras or recording devices will be allowed.
