Landslides kill over 200 people in India

Kerala state leader Pinarayi Vijayan said the death toll from landslides in Wayanad district has risen to 224.

Rescue teams search for more missing bodies on Wednesday (7).

Indian Army soldiers used a sniffer dog to search for bodies trapped under the rubble.

Local administrative officials have poured chlorine into several wells as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of disease.

Heavy rains in the southern Indian coastal state of Kerala, one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, have triggered landslides in the Wayanad district.

People died in their sleep due to the large amounts of mud, water and rocks.

This is the worst disaster in the state since the 2018 floods.

According to authorities, approximately 1,600 people were rescued from hillside villages and more than 8,000 people were sheltering in camps across the district.
