Latin Grammy 2024: Erasmo Carlos’ posthumous album is awarded

“Erasmo Esteves” the singer’s posthumous album Erasmo Carlos who died aged 81 in November 2022, won the Best Rock Album in Portuguese Language category at the Latin Grammy 2024. The son of Erasmus, Leonardo was the one who received the award on behalf of his father. “My father is for you,” he said at the time.

The album, released in May 2024, is a posthumous tribute to the singer, Brazilian rock icon and central figure of Jovem Guarda. Produced by Pupillo Oliveira and Marcus Preto, the project aims not only to honor the artist’s musical legacy, but also to update his work for new generations.

“Erasmo Esteve” brings together new compositions by Erasmo, performed by a new generation of Brazilian musicians, including names such as Emicida, Marina Sena, Rubel, Tim Bernardes, Xênia França and Gaby Amarantos.

The track “Tijuca Maluca”, which brings together several of these artists, highlights the collaboration and dialogue between different musical styles.

Production of the album began in 2022, after the success of the Latin Grammy won by Erasmo with the album “O Futuro Pertence à… Jovem Guarda”.

Even at the end of his life, the artist was involved in the creative process and dreamed of new projects.

In “Erasmo Esteves”, the singer was honored through in-depth research into his notebooks, notes, manuscripts and even cassette tapes with unreleased recordings, which inspired new compositions.

The album title, “Erasmo Esteves”, reflects the intention of showing both the artist and the man behind the legend, bringing the public closer to his personality and creative process.

The album also highlights the collaboration of composers such as Arnaldo Antunes, Nando Reis and Paulo Miklos, who finalized the songs, ensuring that Erasmo’s sound was faithful to his spirit, while at the same time dialoguing with the new influences of contemporary Brazilian music.
