According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the police were checking a property during an action in the Vila Júlia community to combat drug trafficking, when they found the armed suspect, and a confrontation began. The man was shot and died at the scene.

The forensic investigation was called in and the case was registered as attempted murder, drug trafficking and death resulting from police intervention at the Guarujá Police Station.

According to the PM, several quantities of drugs were seized inside the property.

The second phase of Operation Verão began after the death of the military police officer of Rondas Ostensivas Tobias de Aguiar (Rota) Wesley Cosmo, on February 2.

Lethal operations in Baixada

Since the beginning of the administration of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), the Military Police launched two operations that became the second and third deadliest in the state's history.

The first, Operation Shield, was launched on July 27, 2023 and ended in September with 28 deaths. The action ranks third among the most lethal operations of the São Paulo Military Police, behind only the Carandiru massacre in 1992. Operation Verão, launched this year, ranks second in the lethality ranking, with 54 deaths.

Both operations were launched after the death of military police officers in the Baixada Santista region.
