Hollywood actress Laura Dern praised his co-star Liam Hemsworth while talking about filming intimate scenes in her new Netflix film, “Lonely Love” .
Dern, 57, told People magazine that she “was very lucky” to work with Hemsworth, 34, as he was “literally the person I felt safest talking to about everything in my life.”
In an interview published on Friday (11), the actress who won an Oscar for her role in “Marriage Story” (2019) revealed that the pair had created a strong bond.
“When we were doing these scenes, there was nothing we couldn’t talk about together and work through creatively, professionally, all of that,” he said.
The pair also benefited from the presence of an intimacy coordinator: “We also had a lot of support. We had a lot, a lot of discussion.”
The role of the intimacy coordinator is to support the actor with any intimate actions on set, such as kissing, physical touching and simulated sex. They often plan, choreograph, and liaise with actors and the production team to ensure that those in front of and behind the camera feel safe and comfortable with all aspects and stages of the process.
Dern added that he finds it “amazing… that filmmaking and filmmaking has changed so that everyone feels comfortable with their voice and can comfortably set boundaries without fear of losing a job or being unpopular.”
“Both of us, as young actors, had many other types of film experiences,” he said.
Dern has had a long career in Hollywood, receiving Oscar nominations for her performances in “The Wild at Heart” (1990) and “Rose Nights” before her win four years ago. Hemsworth is best known for playing Gale Hawthorne in the “Hunger Games” films.
“Lonely Love” tells the story of a “newly single novelist”, played by Dern, who “finds an unexpected connection with a younger man who is reevaluating his life choices”, according to the synopsis released by Netflix.
