Lavrov arrives in Iran to discuss nuclear deal, bilateral issues

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Iran on Wednesday, Iranian state television reported, according to Reuters, as world powers and Tehran struggled to revive the 2015 nuclear deal amid stalled negotiations.

“During Lavrov’s visit, the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, the strengthening of bilateral and energy cooperation, as well as international and regional issues will be discussed,” Iranian state media reported.

Iranian state television reported that Lavrov had met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, but gave no details. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Monday that Lavrov’s visit was aimed at “expanding co-operation with the Eurasian region and the Caucasus”.
