Last Tuesday, the Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia They went to the municipality of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, a few kilometres from Barcelona, to visit the laboratory of Jaume Plensaone of the most renowned Spanish artists. Plensa, born in Barcelona in 1955, welcomed the princess and the infanta and then took them on a very special tour, where they were able to immerse themselves in the industrial and creative process of an artist capable of shaping and transforming public space thanks to the beauty of his works, which create a kind of dialogue between the artistic and the urban.

The King’s Daughters Philip VI and the queen Joy had the opportunity to see some of his recent works and future projects of a sculptor whose monumental works are visible in cities all over the world (the heads of Julia And Iris in Madrid, Carmela to Barcelona, Water’s Soul in New Jersey, Wonderland in Calgary, Crown Fountain in Chicago…) and who received, among others, the Premio Nacional de Bellas Artes in 2012 and the Premio Velázquez de las Artes in 2013, which was awarded to him by Joy in a ceremony at the Prado Museum in Madrid. At the time, the Queen recalled these words of the sculptor: “It is art that must illuminate the world, not the other way around.” And she metaphorically went to the laboratory where her daughters are today, from which Plensa launches his artistic message, “that thought that fills with immensity”: an artist who through his work, as the Queen said, “ranges from personal to collective expression and proposes a holistic and conciliatory vision.” So that Leonor and Sofia do not forget this visit, the sculptor paid homage to them with two miniature reproductions of the sculptures Isabella (an original work located in Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle) and Julialocated in Plaza de Colón in Madrid.
