The forces of the East Libya reported that two of their helicopters crashed today, in a military operation, as clashes continue with a previously collaborating guerrilla group from Chad.
The Libyan National Army (LNA) of the marshal Caliph Haftar has clashed since last week with fighters of the Front for Change and Unity in Chad (FACT) in southern Libya, near the border with Chad.
The LNA special forces said in a statement that the two helicopters collided with each other and crashed during a military operation south of Benina Air Base.
FACT is based in Libya and fought alongside the LNA in the country’s civil war.
According to expert investigators, the guerrillas had also received heavy weapons from Haftar’s forces. In April, the FACT crossed into northern Chad and clashed with armed forces there. President Idris Debbie was killed in the clashes, and his son took over as Chad’s interim president.
