Seven Turkish nationals detained in eastern Libya for about two years by forces loyal to General Khalifa Haftar have been released following intensive diplomatic efforts, Ankara said.
The seven men who, according to Turkish media, work in the catering sector, were released thanks to diplomatic efforts by Turkey and Qatar.
“The situation of our citizens was closely monitored during this process, both by our embassy in Tripoli and by the intelligence services,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
Anadolu Agency reported that Qatar’s intelligence services cooperated with the Turkish MIT to secure the release of the seven.
Turkey sent troops to Libya in 2019 to support the Tripoli National Accord Government and help it repel the attack by Haftar’s forces, which is backed by Russia and other countries.
