Little hero is a fan of ‘The good doctor’ and saved his friend with a technique from the series

The human mind is wonderful, because it is impressive to discover how, sometimes, the things we see by simple distraction can cause a strong impact on us, remaining recorded somewhere in our subconscious, in the form of knowledge, waiting for the right moment where we can use it.

An example of this is the story of David Díaz, a little boy who was only seven years old, who became a true hero at the precise moment in which he put his memory to work to rescue the knowledge acquired on a television program. In fact, we believe that the anecdote of this child could well be included in a chapter of The Good Doctor, its Show Favourite.

It was a normal day at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, located in the city of Binghamton, New York. The boys were enjoying their lunch break, when little DeAndre started choking on a piece of food. Seeing what was happening, his companion David Díaz got up quickly from his seat to try to help his friend.

The incredible thing happened when little David, far from being scared like a boy his age would, applied the Heimlich maneuver on his friend, based on what he had learned from watching his favorite television series.

The technique involves standing behind the drowning person, placing a clenched fist just above the navel, then taking the fist with the other hand and pressing hard until the object obstructing breathing is expelled.

Fortunately, David managed to get his partner to throw out what was stuck in his throat, so DeAndre began to breathe normally.

When the teachers arrived, DeAndre was out of danger. Stunned, the teachers rushed to question the hero, because they could not understand how, being so small, he was so clear about what he had to do.

David’s answer left them perplexed, because they would never have imagined that the boy managed to retain such valuable information from a simple television program. The boy told them that in an episode of the series The Good Doctorsaw how someone saved the life of a person who was drowning, so he used the same technique to save his partner.

I didn’t know what to do so I just did it. I did it because you have to save everyone in life.

The news quickly spread throughout the United States, becoming known to Fred Akshar, a senator from the state of New York, who did not hesitate to award this brave boy the award New York State Commendation Awardfor saving the life of his little friend.

We are proud to present David with the award for exemplifying what it means to be a hero in his community.

David Díaz, father of the minor, said he was very proud of his little one, although he also said he was surprised that his son had taken so much advantage of a Show they only saw to entertain themselves and enjoy some family time.
