Liz Truss attends Mass in honor of the Queen; new version of the anthem is played

The Service of Prayer and Reflection on the death of Queen Elizabeth II at St Paul’s Cathedral in London is being held this Friday (9).

The bishop of the city said that the monarch, who died this Thursday (8), at the age of 96, had Jesus Christ as her “anchor and model”. She also stressed that the queen showed strength during the “depths of her own grief” by putting others first.

“If Christ was your anchor, your husband, your Majesty’s strength and guide,” she said, referring to the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away in April 2021.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss attended the ceremony, giving the second reading.

“We do not live for ourselves and we do not die for ourselves. If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s,” says the scripture recited by Truss.

During the mass, there was also the first time that the new version of the national anthem was sung. The change brings “God Save the King” instead of “God Save the Queen”.
