The device was obviously invented and patented where the future comes first, al Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology in East China. “I was in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend,” she told Al Global Times Jiang Zhongli, one of the inventors. “We were in contact only by phone: that’s where the inspiration came from.”
But the device is fine too in case of infection: even if today Covid is no longer a concern, if you were forced to live in isolation again, this is a good way to keep “in touch” with your loved one.
A premise must be made, however: the contraption is making a bit of an impression at the moment. It has a movable silicone mouthpiececonnected to some sensors, which mimic the pressure, movement and warmth of the partner’s lips. Not only that, it is also capable of even transmit sounds and coaxing, which can “run away” during the act, to make the exchange as realistic as possible.
But how does it work in practice? Users insert the phone into the compartment at the top of the device and start «record» their kiss, kissing the lips of the device. When they’re done, they can upload and save their kiss to an appthen send it to the recipient, who at that point, can use it whenever he wants, placing his lips on those of his device, and can reciprocate, sending his kiss in turn. A bit like sending a WhatsApp message, but with the bonus.
The price? On the Chinese e-commerce platform Taobao you can find the set of two devices a 550 yuan (about 75 euros). Customers who have already tried it say it works, but with initial reservations: «At first my partner didn’t believe that remote kissing could work – comments a buyer – So she was literally amazed when she did it used”.
