President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met with Pope Francis this Friday (14), at the G7 summit, in Italy, fulfilling the event’s international agenda.
The Brazilian first lady, Janja da Silva, also participated in the meeting.
The Brazilian president said in a post on X that he discussed hunger and social inequalities with the pope at the meeting.
“Meeting with His Holiness, Pope Francis. We talked about peace, fighting hunger and the necessary reduction of inequalities in the world,” said Lula.
“A campaign for a more humane and less unequal world”, added the Brazilian leader.
Pope Francis became the first pontiff to address a G7 summit this Friday (14), warning world leaders that Artificial Intelligence must never be allowed to gain the upper hand over humanity.
The head of the Catholic Church spoke before heads of state and government of the seven largest world powers and the European Union.
“No machine should choose to take the life of a human being,” he said earlier this Friday (14), adding that people should not let super-powerful algorithms decide their fate.
Lula meets with Macron, president of France
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who is in Italy, fulfilling an international agenda for the G7 Summit, met this Friday (14), with French president Emmanuel Macron. The request for a meeting between the leaders came from the French side.
What was discussed between Lula and Macron has not yet been disclosed.
The G7 brings together the leaders of the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada and Japan.
Furthermore, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, host of the summit, invited 10 other nations to participate in the negotiations this Friday (14), including the Prime Minister of India and the presidents of Turkey and Brazil.
The event that began on Thursday (13) reflects Italy’s desire to broaden the horizons of the G7.
Lula meets with President of the European Commission

What was discussed between Lula and German politics has not yet been disclosed.
Despite the advance of the extreme right in the elections for the European Parliament, the centrist group of the current president of the European Commission, the EU’s executive body, won the largest number of seats – 402 in the 720-seat assembly.
Ursula von der Leyen has already started negotiations to form a coalition and remain in office.
