French President Emmanuel Macron said today that he hopes not to have to dissolve the National Assembly again in the 30 months remaining in his term, according to information from those close to him. Macron also said at a meeting with leaders of political parties – excluding the far-right National Front and the far-left French Insubordinate – that he hoped to appoint a new prime minister within the next 48 hours. The French president told the participants that he did not want to be forced to ask for the support of “extreme” political parties and in particular the National Alarm. The Socialist party leadership welcomed the “interesting but inconclusive” talks.
