French President Emmanuel Macron said in a televised address tonight that the rise in Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations due to Covid were worrying and called on all citizens to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

The booster dose of the vaccine will be mandatory in December for those over 65 so they can maintain their health pass, he said.

Macron called for speeding up booster vaccination for the elderly and vulnerable, and said a third dose would be given to people aged 50 to 64 from early December.

Macron warned of a fifth wave of infections in Europe and urged a small minority of unvaccinated French citizens to do so.

“Get vaccinated. Get vaccinated to protect yourself. Get vaccinated to live normally,” he said.
