New Pixel 9 smartphones

According to Google, the new Pixel smartphone models are the first to be designed for the “Gemini era” of the company.

Four models have been confirmed: Pixel 9 , Pixel 9 Pro , Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (Google’s new foldable phone).

All use Google’s new Tensor G4 chip and promise to be twice as durable and resistant as the Pixel 8 models, in addition to having approximately 20% more battery life during active use with the screen on.

The Pixel 9 has a 6.3-inch Actua display, which is 35% brighter than the Pixel 8’s display. It also has a 48MP ultrawide camera.

The Pro models come in two different sizes (6.3 and 6.8 inches), in addition to the foldable version, both with Super Actua screens, which promise to be brighter, and a 42 MP front camera.

New AI Possibilities

The new Tensor G4 chip is designed to optimize the use of artificial intelligence models and will be the first to use Gemini Nano — Google’s AI model designed specifically for mobile devices.

The smartphones will have 12 GB of RAM for the Pixel 9 and 16 GB for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Among the new AI tools that are already built into phones are:

  • Gemini Live: allows the user to interact with Gemini through an informal conversation, in a more intuitive way.
  • Pixel Studio: image generator using artificial intelligence.
  • Pixel Screenshots: application that saves and organizes screenshots (and the information contained in them) taken by the user.
  • Pixel Weather: Weather app that features AI-powered weather reports.
  • Add Me: Camera feature that lets you combine two photographs into one, making it possible to include everyone in the photo, including the photographer.
  • Panorama: Camera feature that optimizes panoramic photos.
  • Magic Editor: Google Photos feature that helps you edit your photos, with new possibilities for changes using AI.
  • Call Notes: A feature that sends a summary and transcribes phone calls.
  • SOS via satellite: allows you to contact emergency services via satellite and share your location even without a cell phone signal.

The Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL are available for pre-order in the US starting at $799, $999, and $1,099, respectively. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is also available for pre-order in the US, but prices were not disclosed.

There is no information on whether or when the smartphones would be available in Brazil.

Pixel Watch 3

Google’s new smartwatch model, Pixel Watch 3, comes in two sizes (41 mm and 45 mm), with an Actua screen, twice as bright as the previous model, which adjusts brightness according to the ambient light.

The watch also detects when the user is falling asleep and automatically enables Bedtime Mode, turning off notifications and conserving battery life. Battery life is up to 36 hours for both sizes.

The smartwatch also comes with new AI features already built in, such as:

  • Daily Readiness: analyzes how ready your body is to face training each day.
  • Cardio Load: monitors the effort and intensity of your heart during physical activity and throughout the day, to analyze whether you are training too much or too little.
  • Target Load: A personalized training goal received every morning.
  • Pulse loss detection : In this first-of-its-kind feature, the smartwatch detects if your heart suddenly stops beating and automatically calls emergency services, sharing a contextual message and your location.

The new features include a daily summary that appears on your watch as soon as you wake up, including your insights for the day and how you’re doing on your weekly workout goal, as well as the weather forecast, to help you plan your workouts and runs in a personalized way.

The Pixel Watch 3 can be ordered in the US for prices ranging from $349.99 to $499.00. There is no information on if or when it will be available in Brazil.

Pixel Buds Pro 2

Google’s new headphones come equipped with the Tensor A1 chip to enhance audio performance, AI utilities and noise cancellation.

The chip allows music to play in a separate “track” from the active noise cancellation, resulting in clearer sound. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are 24% lighter and 27% smaller than the previous model, and come with four different eartips so users can find the best fit.

When active noise cancellation is enabled, you get up to 8 hours of battery life from the earbuds and 30 hours of battery life in the case. With 15 minutes in the case, the earbuds gain up to three hours of extra battery life.

The new headphones also feature Gemini’s artificial intelligence, which works like an assistant that answers your questions directly in your ear, even with your phone locked in your pocket.

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 will be available in the US for $229. There is no information on if or when they will be available in Brazil.
