Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called Iran's president his brother and mourned his death. Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash on Sunday (19).
“Deeply sad to have to say goodbye to an exemplary person, an extraordinary leader of the world as our brother Ebrahim is, and will always be, an excellent human being, defender of the sovereignty of his people and unconditional friend of our country”, said Maduro.
He also commented that he was “shocked by the terrible news of the significant physical loss of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
“From Bolivarian lands, we express our deepest condolences to the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and wish divine consolation for such a sensitive loss.”

The elections to choose the new president were scheduled for June 28, according to the state agency IRNA.
