Main reservoir in SP has lowest level for July in 7 years

The shortage in São Paulo is affecting the level of water sources that supply the population of the metropolitan region of São Paulo. There are already 48 days without rain, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

According to data from the Basic Sanitation Company of the State of São Paulo (Sabesp), the volume of the Cantareira, the main system that supplies Greater São Paulo, is 36.6%. This is the lowest level for the month of July in the last seven years. It is important to highlight that in 2015 the level reached -10.4%.

Overall, the total volume of all reservoirs that supply the metropolitan region is 50%. This level is considered acceptable, but it is still seen as worrisome.

Forecast for the next few days

According to Climatempo, rain should fall again in São Paulo next Friday (29), with the arrival of a cold front advancing from Argentina towards the southeast.
