Major Russian carrier to suspend flights abroad from March 8

Russia’s main carrier Aeroflot will stop all flights abroad, with the exception of those to Belarus, from March 8, TASS news agency said, citing the company on Saturday (5).

Russia’s state aviation authority has recommended that Russian airlines with airlines leased abroad suspend passenger and cargo flights abroad from Russia from Sunday (6) and from foreign countries to Russia from March 8.

Earlier this week, Aeroflot had already canceled a quarter of its flight schedule and delayed another 10% of flights.

Since February 25, Russia has banned British airlines from landing at its airports or crossing its airspace. The move was in retaliation for London’s ban on flights by carrier Aeroflot, imposed in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the ban in parliament and the UK Civil Aviation Authority confirmed and suspended Aeroflot’s foreign transport permit at the time.
