La Pama, therefore, started working with its partners and with the commercial organizations of the sector to develop «a neutral language in the audio industry, ”as Dawn Birr, a member of the association’s Inclusion Committee, explained in a statement.

The intent of the American association is to implement “a unified terminology throughout the sector, in the spirit of inclusiveness and consistency”, explained the chairman of the board of directors of Pama and member of the inclusion committee Karam Kaul . “It’s about treating the other with respect.” The idea is that of replace the terms denoting “gender identification of connectors” with neutral designations, such as “plug” and “socket” instead of male and female cables, and “primary” and “secondary” instead of “master” and “slave” hardware.
The result is a document drawn up by Pama, where the expressions suggested to replace the current terminology are listed, which can be downloaded here and which will continue to evolve thanks to the suggestions and proposals of the members of the organization.
