A 65-year-old man, a fugitive from justice in Alagoas, was arrested this Tuesday (9), in Maracás, a city in the interior of Bahia. According to information from the Civil Police of Bahia, Antônio José dos Santos, known as “Toinho da Barra”, had plastic surgery on his face and used false documents to hide.
He had been sentenced to 22 years in prison for the murder of Luiz Antônio Monteiro Torres, beaten to death with a club, in 2002, in the city of Pão de Açúcar, Sertão Alagoano. The warrant for this crime was served and he was also arrested for ideological falsehood.
According to the investigation, the man was also accused of involvement in a massacre in 1984, in São José da Tapera, also in Alagoas. This attack ended with the deaths of farmer Givaldo Ferreira dos Santos, lawyer João Alves and mayoral candidate Wellington Fontes.
The Civil Police of Bahia received information that Toinho da Barra changed his address frequently in an attempt to mislead the police, but he began to live a normal life as a businessman and with his family in the state for five years. Until a monitoring was carried out in order to arrest him.
The man underwent physical injury tests and was placed at the disposal of the Criminal Enforcement Court.
