Man convicted of blowing up armored cars is killed in confrontation with police in Bahia

A man convicted of blowing up armored cars was killed in a confrontation with the Military Police in Bahia, on Wednesday (25), in Lauro de Freitas, in the metropolitan region of Salvador.

Adaílton Oliveira de Brito, known as “Binho”, was the target of an operation by the Integrated Force to Combat Organized Crime (FICCO) Bahia, in collaboration with the State Public Security Forces. He had two outstanding arrest warrants.

During the attempt to capture the criminal, there was a confrontation and he ended up injured. Despite being rescued, he did not survive his injuries.

A pistol, a magazine, ammunition and explosives were seized from him.

According to the police, the criminal, who was part of a São Paulo faction, planned attacks on banks and armored cars in Bahia with the help of partners from São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Piauí.

According to investigations, the group that Adaílton was part of was dismantled last Friday (20) in Camaçari, Bahia, where four bank robbers were arrested. Heavy weapons, including a rifle, were found with them.

“FICCO Bahia and the State Security Forces continue to carry out intelligence actions to dismantle factions involved in homicides, arms and drug trafficking, money laundering and crimes against property,” said the Secretary of Public Security for the State of Bahia, Marcelo Werner, in a statement.

Adaílton Oliveira de Brito was involved in the attack on an armored car on December 4, 2023, near the Pedra do Cavalo Dam, on BR-101, in Recôncavo Baiano. He was arrested, but was provisionally released after a custody hearing.
