Man throws truck with around 800 kilos of marijuana into river, tries to escape by swimming, but is arrested in SC

A joint operation between public security agencies seized 776 kg of marijuana in the city of Caxambu do Sul (SC), on Wednesday (15), after an unidentified man disobeyed a police order to stop, crossed a ferry and threw the car he was in on the Uruguay River.

After throwing the vehicle into the river, the suspect got out of the truck and tried to swim away, however, he was detained by the police. The vehicle was removed from the water with the help of a group of volunteer firefighters and with the help of a machine from the Caxambu do Sul city hall.

According to authorities, the truck, registered in the municipality of Corbélia, Paraná, had drugs in the back seats and in the bed. Furthermore, the silver Mitsubishi Triton – which was listed as stolen – was circulating with license plates cloned from another car with similar characteristics.

During the operation, it was also identified that a 23-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman acted as scouts to transport more than 700 kilos of marijuana. They followed the Mitsubishi in a silver Ford Fiesta and were also arrested.
