During Operation Rota Segura, launched this Thursday (31) by the Integrated Force to Combat Organized Crime (FICCO) Bahia, drug trafficker Luís Fernando Umbelino dos Santos, aged 31, known as “Tonelada”, died after a confrontation with police officers in the Complexo do Nordeste de Amaralina, in Salvador.
The action is carried out in partnership with the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Bahia and the state’s Federal Police.
Appointed as responsible for weapons logistics for a “tram” belonging to a criminal faction, Tonelada supplied the group with weapons used in attacks on police vehicles and disputes with rivals.
On provisional release for drug trafficking and robbery, he was found while executing search warrants in Chapada do Rio Vermelho.
According to the SSP, at the time of the approach, Tonelada reacted and was hit in an exchange of gunfire. He was taken to the State General Hospital (HGE), but he did not survive his injuries.
This Thursday morning (31), court orders were being carried out in the neighborhoods of Santa Cruz, Vale das Pedrinhas and Chapada do Rio Vermelho, in Salvador.
Operation Rota Segura continues with raids and police reinforcement in the areas of Complexo do Nordeste de Amaralina, with the seizure of weapons, ammunition and drugs.
