Transport problems in Britain causing the snow, as Manchester Airport was temporarily closed. According to the airport’s statement, the safety and health of passengers “will always be our first priority and airport operations will resume at the earliest opportunity.”
Travelers are advised to contact airlines for more information.
One passenger tweeted that there were delays of more than two hours at the airport, adding: “Just another hour to sit on the plane, going nowhere.”
Natahan Booth tweeted that he was “sitting on the plane that diverted to Birmingham due to snow in the last hour”.
The UK Met Office predicted further problems due to ice and snow in parts of Northern Ireland, Wales, north-west England and south-west Scotland. The agency issued a weather advisory to alert citizens that some roads and rail lines may be affected. The UK Health Safety Authority (UKHSA) has issued a ‘Level 3 Low Temperature Alert’ warning that the cold snap could disrupt services and “increase health risks for vulnerable patients”.
