Marcopolo announced this Tuesday (9) that it will start the series production of electric buses this month.
The model will be the first 100% electric vehicle with its own chassis by the body maker.
The announcement was made during Lat.Bus 2022, a fair in the south of São Paulo that brings together bus manufacturers.
By the end of the year, Marcopolo expects to produce 30 electric buses in different configurations.
The company already has more than 350 electric and hybrid buses in circulation in countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Australia and India, in addition to Brazil, but the chassis of these vehicles are produced by automakers.
The first electric buses entirely produced by Marcopolo will be manufactured in the company’s industrial park in Caxias do Sul (RS), with batteries imported from China.
Since October, the model is being tested, with performance evaluated on a short journey, and without passengers, in the center of Santo André, in the ABC region of São Paulo.
