Masoutis descent to Attica with his first darkstore

By George Lampiris

His next step to serve his customers through his online store is currently being implemented and will be launched from next March, the Masoutis supermarket chain. In this context, the company is preparing its first darkstore in Attica – but also nationwide -, which will be located in the area of Metamorfosi. According to sources close to the company, this move will completely change the model of service and distribution of orders in the basin as the sorting of orders will be done centrally through the darkstore, while until now it is done through the physical stores of the chain. It should be noted that it currently serves the eshop distributions from 55 stores throughout Greece, offering products in 45 cities. The darkstore will have a total area of about 1,700 sq.m. and the goal of the company is to expand with others in the capital in the near future, while the plan is to create a similar facility in the Southern Suburbs in the second year. In total, the design is the creation of up to three darkstores, which in the first phase will be built in Attica, while in the second year the expansion in Thessaloniki is considered very likely.

The first darkstore created by the company

In fact, this is the first darkstore, which is built by Masoutis. The move in Attica is made given that this market is considered more mature in relation to e-commerce, but also because in fact the physical stores are less numerical compared to Thessaloniki, so the goal of the company’s executives is to serve and the consumer public in areas where there is so far no presence of Masouti in the capital.

At 2% the e-commerce turnover for Masoutis

According to the same sources, the turnover of Masouti’s eshop currently corresponds to 2% of the total turnover of the chain, which in 2021 closed at 2020 levels, when its sales were 882.46 million euros.

The number of serviced orders and the available code list is increasing

With this move, Masoutis has the opportunity to increase its code list through e-commerce in Attica, aiming at the same time to achieve the delivery of its orders on the same day. At the same time, this will increase the available order boxes that the company has at its disposal per day, being now able to serve a larger number of orders, increasing its turnover. In addition, the goal is to gradually serve the whole of Attica, as the execution of electronic orders so far through physical stores has significantly limited the scope of activity of the e-shop.

Finally, in terms of physical stores, Masoutis plans to open more than 30 points of sale nationwide within 2022, emphasizing the capital, the islands and the Peloponnese, where it has already taken its first steps in Patras.
