Maternity, the photos that show the beauty of the changing body

Donatella Nicolini she is a young photographer, she has no children and motherhood scares her. But he decided to tell it by enhancing its beauty. “My grandmother became pregnant with a man she did not want to marry and was pointed out as the shame of the country, she was forced to hide her pregnancy and I think it was a psychological wound so deep that, when it happened to my mother too, she tried let her experience her pregnancy in the utmost secrecy »says Donatella Nicolini who in her photos has chosen to portray mainly pregnant women, who have successful professional paths behind them.

«Unconsciously I have always experienced pregnancy as a moment to hide from the eyes of others. Over time, however, I then discovered that I am deeply fascinated by women who decide to take this step, I worship them like a goddess, I consider them superheroines because, today as never before, giving birth to a child is not just an act of love. but also of courage », continues Donatella Nicolini, awarded this year as best Maternity Photographer, from The Societies of Photographers, among the main world associations of photography.

Her choice was to tell the pregnancy away from stereotypes and indeed as a moment of female empowerment. In her images, women proudly and elegantly show their bodies, shaped by motherhood. “Just think of the haters that arise on social media whenever a pregnant woman decides to show herself without veils or simply in poses that enhance her beauty and femininity. As if being pregnant automatically deletes the identity of a woman in favor of the idea of a mother which is, in my opinion, now archaic and far from the changes taking place in today’s society “.
