Yesterday MediaTek held an official event in China dedicated to the flagship SoC Dimensity 9000. During the presentation, the company announced a mobile SoC, which is one step below – Dimensity 8000.

If Dimensity 9000 will compete with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, then Dimensity 8000 will compete with Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 888: it is expected to perform better than the former, but lower than the latter. There are no official characteristics of Dimensity 8000 (the platform will be presented only in the first quarter of next year), but there are unofficial ones. The SoC is expected to be manufactured using the 5nm process technology. The platform’s CPU will be dual-cluster, with four 2.75 GHz Arm Cortex-A78 cores and four 2.0 GHz Arm Cortex-A55 cores. The GPU will be Arm Mali-G510 MC6. The platform is also credited with support for Full HD + screens with a frame rate of 168 Hz or QHD + screens with a frame rate of 120 Hz, LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash memory. The first smartphones on Dimensity 8000 will be presented by Redmi and Realme.
