A meeting with Bethann Rooney, Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (Director of the Port Department of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey) and other executives of the Organization was held in New York on April 28 by the Executive Director of the Hellenic Ports Association Mr. Dimitris Iatridis.
The meeting took place in a very good atmosphere with an exchange of ideas and views based on the optimal use of the potential of the ports and lasted more than an hour and a half. Ms. Rooney made a brief presentation of the New York Port Master Plan for 2050, focusing on the transformation of activities and the significant restructuring of land use in recent years in order to enhance its functionality and profitability. Mr. Iatridis underlined the dynamism of the Greek ports and the huge further possibilities of their utilization with emphasis on the digital and green transition but also the upgrade and expansion of their infrastructures. He focused in particular on the geostrategic role of the country, the power of Greek shipping and the key role that Greece plays as a center of transit trade.
The next day, Mr. Iatridis was received by the Consul General of Greece in New York, Mr. Konstantinos Koutras, and together they attended an event of a Greek school in the city for the Revolution of 1821, where he addressed a greeting. He also had a brief meeting and exchange of views with the Secretary General of Spatial Planning and Urban Environment of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Mr. Efthymios Bakoyannis who was also in New York.
