Petrobras would have received in recent days requests from government assistants so that the full value of the lag in the price of gasoline and diesel would not be passed on in full to the consumer market.

According to reports made to CNN Brazil, members of the federal government would have sent the message to the state-owned company that, at this moment, it would be better to have announcements in a staggered way, preventing an abrupt increase from stimulating protests and stoppages across the country.

This Thursday (10), Petrobras announced that it will raise the price of gasoline and diesel, after 57 days without adjustments. For gasoline, the increase will be 18% and, for diesel, almost 25%. The new values ​​begin to be practiced this Friday (11). As a result, the average sale price of gasoline from Petrobras to distributors will rise from R$3.25 to R$3.86 per liter.

As the federal government wanted, the transfer was not full. According to the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom), there is still a lag in the price of a liter of gasoline in Brazil of around 12%.

Last Tuesday (8), the president of the state-owned company, Joaquim Silva e Luna, attended a meeting at Palácio do Planalto to assess the pressure on fuel prices. The price gap was even mentioned, according to government advisers.

To try to avoid further increases, the federal government is preparing a three-month transitory subsidy program at a cost of around R$20 billion.
