Four people died and three others were injured in a shooting in Memphis, Tennessee, on Wednesday (7), according to police information released on Thursday (8).
The shootings took place at several locations, Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis said. The start was at 12:56 and continued until late at night.
The suspect, 19-year-old Ezekiel Kelly, was arrested after a high-speed chase and was being taken to the Shelby County Jail, Davis continued.
The 19-year-old is in custody after the Memphis Police Department issued warnings about an “armed and dangerous” suspect believed to be responsible for several shootings in the Tennessee city, according to posts from the department’s Twitter account.
Officials also wrote that residents should be on the lookout for the suspect. “If you don’t have to go out, stay home until this is resolved,” they warned.
At around 9:30 pm, police reported that a shelter in the area where the suspect was being held had been erected.
THE CNN contacted the police for positioning.
Initially, police received reports that the suspect was “recording his actions on Facebook”.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, said it was working collaboratively on the case. The company contacted the department shortly after the initial alerts and has since removed video content that may be related to the incident.
