Authorities in Sakatekas announced that 16 people were killed in a gang dispute, as this state of the central Mexico has been faced with an escalation of violence.
According to Attorney General Francisco Mourillo, ten bodies were found wrapped in blankets in the streets of the municipality of Fresnio and others six were found “hanged” in a warehouse in the nearby community of Panfilos Natera.
Two people carrying a corpse were arrested one day earlier, the prosecutor added, noting that all the killings were probably linked.
Last month, authorities found 10 bodies abandoned in a vehicle in the historic center of the homonymous state capital Sakateka, a few steps from the seat of local government.
Murders have risen in the state, according to official figures: 1,050 were committed in 2021, some 200 more than in 2020.
