Minas Gerais has 300 cities on alert for heavy rain and chances of hail until the end of this Tuesday (03), according to Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology).
The forecast is for rains of up to 100 millimeters and winds of up to 100 km/h.
Since the beginning of the rainy season that began in September 2022, Minas Gerais has been suffering from heavy rains, storms and severe storms.
Still according to the Inmet alert, there is a risk of power outages, damage to plantations, falling trees and flooding.
The Civil Defense of Minas Gerais highlighted some precautions that the population should take in these situations of storms and hailstorms.
- Do not cross flooded streets or let children play in floodwaters and near streams.
- Do not take shelter or park vehicles under trees.
- Pay special attention to slopes and hills.
- Never approach broken electrical cables. Immediately call CEMIG (116) or Civil Defense (199).
- If you notice cracks in the walls of houses or the appearance of crevices, depressions or water mines in the land, notify the Civil Defense immediately.
- In case of lightning, do not stay in open areas or use electrical equipment.
Also according to the Civil Defense, Minas Gerais has already registered 14 deaths related to the rainy season and the number of municipalities in Minas Gerais that are in an emergency situation has increased to 119.
Almost 9,000 people remain outside their homes, including homeless and displaced people.
