Michela Moioli: “I’m ready for my third Olympics”

The opportunity to meet Michela Maioli, gold medal in snowboard cross at the Pyeongchang Olympics in 2018, arrives at the presentation of a new video game: Riders Republic. Michela is among the testimonials and reveals how even an afternoon with the console can turn into a workout. «There are some video games that can become an integral part of a sports preparation. This because great attention is needed during the game and reflexes are superstimulated. The mind and the gaze must be activated quickly, it’s not like being on a track, but it helps me and I am convinced that in the future some games similar to Riders Republic they will be used by professional athletes as simulators ».

Less than a hundred days to go Winter Olympics which will be held in Beijing between 4 and 20 February, Michela will go there to defend the gold medal. «I’m ready to give my best, I trained very well and I feel well prepared».

The novelty compared to the other two Olympics in which he took part is that this time it will also be flag bearer for Italy in the closing ceremony. «I didn’t expect it», she confides, «and I was so surprised by the phone call from Giovanni Malagò that at the moment I didn’t know what to say. Then I called my boyfriend, but I could not divulge the news for a few days as the official status was still missing ».

Instead, her friend will represent our nation in the opening ceremony Sofia Goggia. «I am very happy to share this beautiful experience with you. We are very good friends, even if due to our commitments we do not manage to see each other often, but every now and then we have a dinner and then with the mobile phone it is easy to feel close even from many kilometers away ». Then a little confession. «I prefer to be standard-bearer in the closing ceremony than in the opening one so I won’t have any distractions before the race!».

Michela Maioli, twenty-six at full speed and not only in the snow, is a girl full of resources. «I love snowboarding, but I also love the surf. This summer I practiced it a lot, both in Fuerteventura and in Italy and I have also improved. But then I decided to put the table away, there is an Olympics to honor and possibly to win ».

Not just sports, though. Michela is also engaged in the study. «It seems incredible», she says smiling, «and many of my peers may think I am crazy. But study relaxes me. For a few hours a day I don’t think about competitions, snowboarding, training. I pull the plug and concentrate only on the books ».

In the future, an even greater commitment than being a champion. «She will be delighted to become mother“. But for this there will be time, now there is an Olympics to face in a big way. And Michela already knows how to do it.
