Microsoft reveals details of Windows 10 21H2 update

Although the bulk of the Microsoft development team is developing the Windows 11 operating system, the next update for Windows 10 is also being prepared for release.

The company announced that the Windows 10 21H2 update will bring with it several new features, including support for WPA3 H2E, simplified password-less sign-in with Windows Hello for Business, support for GPU computing in the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), and Azure IoT Edge for Linux.

Since Windows 11 won’t be supported on all Windows 10 PCs, the 21H2 update and beyond will be important for people looking to stay on this operating system for years to come.

Microsoft noted that this update will be installed on any Windows 10 system (starting with version 2004) and guarantees that it will be serviced for 18 months on Windows Home and Pro versions, while Enterprise and Education versions will be supported for 30 months.

In addition, the next version of Windows 10 Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) will be released around the same time as 21H2 and will provide updates for five years. This is especially useful for those who do not want to update their computers regularly.

Microsoft has begun distributing Build 21H2 to Windows beta testers. After these users provide feedback to Microsoft, the update will begin rolling out to regular users in the second half of this calendar year. More details on Windows 10 LTSC will be posted shortly.
