Former Minister of Education Milton Ribeiro, arrested since Wednesday (22) in a Federal Police (PF) operation, left the PF building where he was detained in São Paulo, this Thursday (23).
Judge Ney Bello, from the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region, decided this Thursday to cancel the preventive detention of the former minister.
“In view of the foregoing, I grant the preliminary injunction, if for any other reason the patient Milton Ribeiro is not segregated, to revoke his preventive detention, until the judgment on the merits by the collegiate of the Third Panel of this TRF of the 1st. Region”, reads the decision.
Ribeiro was on Wednesday (22) in an operation by the Federal Police (PF), which investigates the practice of influence peddling and corruption for the release of public funds from the MEC.
In addition to Milton Ribeiro, pastors Gilmar Santos and Arilton Moura, lawyer and former MEC advisor Luciano de Freitas Musse and former advisor to the Goiânia City Hall Helder Bartolomeu were arrested.
This Thursday morning, the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region had rejected the request for freedom for a habeas corpus for the former minister.
The defense of former minister Milton Ribeiro joined, on Wednesday, with requests to the TRF-1 for the preventive detention to be revoked or transformed into home.
The lawyers also asked for access to the process that culminated in Ribeiro’s arrest on suspicion of corruption and influence peddling during his tenure at the Ministry of Education.
