Mojang Studios, the developer of the popular game Minecraft, has stressed that it has no plans to add non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and blockchain support to the game.
“While we are still in the process of updating the documents, we would like to share our vision. Integrating NFT into Minecraft is not something we support. Also, we will not add blockchain support to our game,” the developers said.
As the developers explained, Mojang’s goal is to provide users with the same content. And the introduction of NFT can create situations of shortage of any tokens in the market, and thus disrupt the user experience.
“Systems on the blockchain are not allowed to be integrated into our client and server applications. Minecraft in-game content such as worlds, player skins, items, or anything else will not use the blockchain. Speculation with such items would divert attention from the game itself, which we believe is not in line with the spirit of adventure,” the developers write.
At the same time, they emphasized that they are closely watching the blockchain industry and if NFT or other systems based on this technology comply with the principles of Mojang, then their implementation is quite possible.
Earlier, Mojang created a petition calling on colleagues from other studios to carefully introduce cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens into video games.
