Moraes denies request to withdraw inquiry into Bolsonarista businessmen from the STF

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), denied this Wednesday (14) a request for the investigation of Bolsonarista businessmen to be sent to the Federal Court in Brasília. The decision is confidential.

According to Moraes, the conduct of the businessmen, allegedly pointed out by the Federal Police (PF), is still under investigation, which is at an early stage, therefore, “it would be absolutely premature” to take the case to the Supreme Court, “even more so at a time prior to the analysis, by the Federal Police, of the elements collected from the searches and breaches of secrecy”.

“In this context, there is no doubt that the conduct of those investigated indicates the possibility of attacks against Democracy and the Rule of Law, using the modus operandi of mass dissemination schemes on social networks, with the intention of harming or exposing the danger of harming the independence of the Judiciary, the Rule of Law and Democracy; proving to be essential to adopt measures that elucidate the facts investigated”, said Moraes.

The PF operation was triggered after the “Metrópoles” portal revealed exchanges of messages in a WhatsApp group in which businessmen defended a coup d’état if former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) wins this year’s presidential election. In the decision, the STF minister cites the dialogues.

Moraes’ decision, in August, authorized a search and seizure operation against the businessmen.
