Moraes revokes injunction and IPI falls for the industry

The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes, revoked the injunction that suspended the reduction of the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI). The information was published on the STF website.

The decision ends the legal uncertainty surrounding the matter and reduces by 35% the IPI for various industrial products, excluding items that are manufactured in the Manaus Free Trade Zone.

The federal government even published three decrees on the subject, which were the subject of injunctions by Moraes, in response to requests from Solidarity.

The party argued that the measure reduced the competitiveness of products made in Manaus, which do not pay IPI because it is a Free Zone. The situation was resolved by increasing the number of excluded products.

The situation was generating many complaints from industry representatives against Moraes. They complained behind the scenes of an alleged undue interference by the minister in the decisions of the Ministry of Economy.
