More than 5,000 dead in Turkey and Syria, new phase of Operation Lesa Patria and more than 7 February

The mobilization of the international community after earthquakes left more than 5,000 dead in Turkey and Syria, and the new phase of the Federal Police’s (PF) Lesa Patria operation are among the highlights of this Tuesday (7).

International community comes together to help Turkey and Syria after earthquakes

Strong earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria early on Monday (6), leaving thousands dead, injured and homeless. The tremors were the strongest in a century in the region.

As of this Tuesday morning (7), the confirmed number of deaths in both countries was already over 5,000. The number of buildings that collapsed in Turkey alone has surpassed 5,600.

According to the United States Geological Survey, at least 75 aftershocks measuring 4.0 or greater on the Richter Scale occurred after the first quake.

In the face of this, the international community showed solidarity and was ready to send supplies and aid to the affected region, bringing together more than 40 nations.

PF fulfills warrants against DF military police in new phase of operation Lesa Pátria

The Federal Police (PF) started, this Tuesday (7), a new phase of Operation Lesa Pátria, which targets those involved in the criminal acts of January 8 in Brasília.

Among the targets are military police officers from the Federal District (DF) who failed to comply with command orders during the attacks against the headquarters of the Three Powers. The corporation’s Internal Affairs monitors the movement.

In this fifth phase of police action, a total of 10 warrants issued by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) are complied with: three for temporary arrest, one for preventive arrest and six for search and seizure.

The target of the preventive arrest warrant is Colonel Jorge Eduardo Naime Barreto, who, on January 8, was head of the Operational Department of the Military Police of the DF (PMDF).

Lula and Janja move to Alvorada this Monday

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and first lady Rosângela Silva, Janja, will officially move to Alvorada Palace, in Brasília, starting this Monday (6). The information was confirmed by sources linked to the PT.

Lula arrived from Rio de Janeiro, where he went to accompany the inauguration of the new president of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Aloizio Mercadante, straight to Alvorada.

The Palace was criticized by the first lady for the poor conditions it was in when it was left by the Bolsonaro family, with cracked glass, infiltration and torn furniture, for example.
