Former judge Sergio Moro, a pre-candidate for the presidency by Podemos, met with a group of big bankers and businessmen on Monday night (29). The meeting took place at the home of investor Luiz Fernando Figueiredo, founding partner of Mauá Capital.
The dinner brought together names such as: Roberto Setubal, co-chairman of the Board of Directors of Itaú; Milton Goldfarb, from developer One; Luis Stuhlberger, investor and CEO of Verde Asset; Marcelo Maragon, executive at Citi; José Flavio Ramos, CEO of investment bank Br Partners; Paulo Galvão, shareholder and member of Klabin’s board of directors; Jair RIbeiro, former CEO of Banco Indusval and advisor to the NGO Parceiros da Educação. Moro was accompanied by the national president of Podemos, Renata Abreu.
Second report made to CNN for some of those present, Moro gave an opening speech of about 25 minutes. The conversation followed with questions from the guests and lasted an hour and a half. He spoke about economics, team building, third way building and social programs – a topic he has been trying to emphasize since he launched his political career.
The initiative of the meeting was from Luiz Fernando Figueiredo. The idea was that the former minister could present his views on the country and even hear what the group understands to be necessary for a presidential project.
According to one guest, Moro got the tone right and “pleased a lot.” One of the guests said he was surprised by the president’s speech, who has reiterated his alignment with liberal ideas.
He took a stand against re-election and once again defended that fiscal responsibility should be the north of a government. Moro signaled opening to compose with other names that are placed in the center field, depending on how the race unfolds in the coming months.
The dinner followed Moro’s schedule at XP Investimentos during the afternoon, also in São Paulo. There, Moro spoke with about 20 institutional investors and was accompanied by his economic advisor, Afonso Celso Pastores, who participated virtually.
