The earthquake that occurred shortly after 23:00 (local time, 01:00 Greek time) had a magnitude of 6.9, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
The epicenter is located 77 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakesh and the focal depth is estimated at 10 kilometers.
Videos posted on social media platforms show the ruins of flattened buildings and terrified residents taking to the streets.
