“Moscow may seek compensation for Nord Stream pipeline explosions”

That Moscow awaited the conclusion of the investigation into the pipeline sabotage natural gas Nord Stream before submitting a request for compensation, Russian state news agency RIA reported on Tuesday (11/21), citing a Russian Foreign Ministry official as saying today.

The natural gas pipelines in the Baltic were damaged by explosions last year, and investigations are still inconclusive as to who was responsible.

As RIA pointed out in its related publication, the head of the economic cooperation department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmitry Birysevsky, answered a question about the issue of compensation. “The investigation has not yet been completed, we are waiting for its results to be presented to the (UN) Security Council, then we will decide what to do,” he said characteristically, the Athens News Agency points out, citing Reuters.

THE Russia blames the US, Britain and Ukraine for the pipeline explosions, which have largely cut it off from the lucrative European market. These countries deny any involvement.

The UN Security Council refused to conduct its own investigation into the incident, leaving it to the governments of Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
