Although the Ryzen Threadripper 5000 processors have not yet been released, they are already working as part of the MilkyWay @ Home project. This is a distributed computing project to create a high-precision three-dimensional dynamic model of stellar streams in our galaxy.
Two systems on new CPUs appeared in the project almost simultaneously, which hints at a common source. In addition, we now know the names of the processors: Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5945WX and Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX. The first has 12 cores, the second has 64 cores. These are the junior and senior CPUs of the new line, respectively.
At the same time, for the junior processor there is even a performance indicator – 5.56 billion operations per second for floating point calculations and 21.6 billion for integer ones. Unfortunately, there is no data in the project database for the 12-core Threadripper Pro 3945WX, so the new product cannot be compared with its predecessor.
