MP gives opinion against Cristian Cravinhos’ progression to open regime

The Public Ministry of São Paulo (MPSP) issued this Tuesday (13) an opinion against the progression of Cristian Cravinhos, 48 years old, to the open regime.

In the statement, the Public Prosecutor Alexandre Mafetano, from the Criminal Executions Court of the District of Taubaté, states that Cravinhos has a history of disciplinary offenses, two of which are serious and one of which is medium.

In this way, the prosecutor claims that the existing faults in Cristian’s record raise doubts regarding his suitability to try the open regime. “As well as about his social and moral conscience, in addition to needing to mature and become aware of his actions, managing, above all, to have an understanding of their gravity”, wrote Mafetano.

The prosecutor also points out that Cristian is the author of serious crimes, such as qualified homicide and active corruption. In addition, Mafetano claims that the defendant did not serve his sentence in a gentle and peaceful manner, considering that he committed another crime when he was placed in an open regime in 2017.

Cravinhos was arrested in 2002 and sentenced in 2006, along with his brother Daniel Cravinhos and his former sister-in-law Suzane Von Richthofen, to a sentence of 38 years and 6 months in prison for the murder of the Von Richthofen couple, the former sister-in-law’s parents. Suzane and Daniel have already received the benefit and are out of prison.

Criminological examination

In May of this year, the MPSP requested that Cristian undergo a criminological examination in order to progress to an open regime. In the request, Mafetano clarified that the certificate of good conduct in prison was not sufficient to prove that the convict could progress in the regime and return to live in society.

Earlier this month, the examination report indicated favorable aspects for his sentence to be increased to an open regime. The document also states that there was no evidence of psychopathological disorders or signs of dangerousness. The convict reported that he is undergoing psychiatric treatment for insomnia and, in 2018, he had two bouts of claustrophobia while in an open regime.

In the semi-open regime, Cristian is expected to finish serving his sentence in 2041. If the Court denies the MP’s position, the convict may be subjected to the Rorschach test for a complete evaluation.
