MP indicts 17 military police officers for involvement with militia in RJ

The Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor’s Office indicted 17 military police officers for involvement with the militia and other criminal practices, this Thursday (26).

The PMs are accused of criminal association focused on militia practice, extortion, illegal trade in firearms and passive corruption.

The MPRJ is also executing 37 search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to the reported agents this morning. The operation is being carried out by the MP’s Specialized Action Group for Combating Organized Crime (Gaeco).

According to the ministry, the police officers were involved with a criminal group that operates in the Bateau Mouche community, in Jacarepaguá, in the west zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The warrants are being served at the addresses of the accused and at the battalions where they are stationed. See below:

  • 40th BPM (Campo Grande)
  • 9th BPM 2nd CIA (Honório Gurgel)
  • 5th BPM (Gamboa)

  • 15th BPM (Duque de Caxias)
  • 18th BPM (Parish)
  • 20th BPM (Mesquita)
  • BPCHOQUE (Center)
  • Bidding and Projects Directorate (Center).

This morning’s action has the support of the General Inspectorate of the Military Police and the Sub-Secretariat of Intelligence (Ssinte) of the Civil Police.

The State Secretariat of Military Police informs, through the General Inspectorate of the Military Police, that it is supporting and collaborating with the operation of the Public Ministry.

The PM did not provide details on whether the police officers reported are on active duty, in administrative roles or away from the force.
