Mr. Mitsotakis: ‘Israel-Cyprus-Greece alliance is a strategy’

“Our relations with Israel are excellent as never before,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in joint statements with the leaders of Cyprus and Israel at the Tripartite Summit in Jerusalem.

The Greek Prime Minister referred to the strategic alliance of the three countries, while referring to the pandemic, he stressed that we should continue the effort to increase vaccinations and the boosting dose.

Mr. Mitsotakis also said that they will have the opportunity to discuss the issue of climate change, emphasizing that environmental protection is a very important issue for Greece. In this regard, he thanked the leaders of Israel and Cyprus for the assistance they provided to our country in extinguishing the fires in the summer.

He also said that they will discuss energy issues while referring to the importance of EastMed.

In terms the behavior of Turkey, reminded that unfortunately it took provocative actions in the maritime economic zone of Cyprus while for the Cyprus issue he reiterated that the only viable solution is the one that will respect all the decisions of the Security Council and will provide for abolition of the anachronistic system of guarantees and withdrawal of occupiers the island.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis also referred to the economic development in Greece as well as to the prospects for the period after the pandemic, while he stressed that “we expect even more investments in our country from Israel”.

For his part Naftali Bennett welcomed the two leaders to Jerusalem. As he noted, “our countries have one of the most ancient civilizations, with a deep history and rich heritage, in the Eastern Mediterranean region. We share common values ​​for prosperity, security and freedom.”

The Israeli prime minister stressed that “we recognize the threats and challenges in the region, we are concerned about security”, adding that Israel wants to upgrade “the energy cooperation (of the three countries) with East Med”.
