A mother and her teenage daughter were discovered dead along with their dog in a horrific scene inside their home in Brooklyn on Monday, according to police. The bodies of the 37-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were discovered inside their New York Avenue home around 4:30 p.m. when a friend went to check on the family after hearing from them since Friday.
The mother’s body was found face down in the living room with a stab wound to the face, while her daughter was found face down with a head wound, police sources said.
Their dog’s body was next to them with a bag over his head, according to the same sources cited by the New York Post.
A police source described the scene as particularly gruesome and bloody.
Police arrived on the scene Friday morning after a downstairs neighbor, Steve Shore, called them and heard screams, but no one answered the door.
“My wife and I woke up. There was screaming, banging, dogs howling and whining,” recalled Shore, 38. “They knocked on the door, got no answer,” he said, referring to the officers.
“And then I came home today and saw all of this,” he added.
Police are investigating the deaths. Sources said the tragedy may be a murder-suicide.
