N. Iliopoulos: The government punishes parents with sick children by reducing their salaries

“Faithful to its anti-labor position and in the midst of an explosion of precision, by order of Mr. Hatzidakis, the Mitsotakis government punishes with a 50% salary reduction those private sector employees who take leave because their child is ill,” his spokesman said in a statement. SYRIZA-PS Nassos Iliopoulos.

“That is, he punishes them because their child got stuck because Mr. Mitsotakis opened the schools as he closed them”, he underlines.

The full statement follows:

“From the first day of operation of the schools we ask for the obvious: Special purpose permits for working parents whose children are ill with covid.

With a week delay, after 40,000 cases of students, the government is doing the unthinkable.

Faithful to her anti-labor status and in the midst of an explosion of precision, by order of Mr. Hatzidakis, she punishes with a 50% salary reduction those private sector employees who take leave because their child is ill.

In other words, he punishes them because their child got stuck because Mr. Mitsotakis opened the schools as he closed them.

It sends a message to working parents to go to work, even if their child is sick, and let there be a risk of further extreme dispersal in the workplace.

“The term ‘criminal’ fully describes the management of the pandemic by Mr Mitsotakis.”
